Small weddings - Spring edition

Over the last two years, we have seen new wedding trends emerge with the changes in our lives that Covid 19 has brought. Micro weddings are a part of these trends. A Micro wedding involves the same types of celebrations as a big wedding without the guest numbers. There are a number of reasons why you should consider a micro-wedding, but here are some options to make the most of the current season: SPRING!

Just like for big weddings, Spring is the best time of the year to consider celebrating your wedding day as the days are starting to get longer, there are nice sunny days without the scorching temperatures of summer. With the end of winter we say goodbye to gloomy days and hello to new blooms, colors and warmer days.

Food Options for Spring Micro-weddings:

·      The Brunch: To celebrate all things spring we couldn’t go past the BRUNCH options. With a number of iconic venues in Melbourne with the most scrumptious brunch options, maybe this is a great option to consider if you are keen to go with an unscripted ceremony. Spring brunches will allow you to have a number of seasonal fruits like berries and other seasonal fruits. Brunch weddings are becoming a trend in recent times and they are a great theme for your wedding day.

·      Grazing tables: You might be considering a DIY or get a catering company to do it for you, either way, this is a great option to consider especially if you are outdoors. Grazing stations are the perfect match for wines and cocktails. Grazing stations can also be sweet with a variety of donuts, fruit and other small dessert. The great thing about having your event in spring is the number of seasonal produce that will be available during this time of the year.

·      Seasonal Menu: most winter menus include meats and rooted vegetables, the perks of a seasonal menu in spring is the greater availability of salads and bright looking vegetables and fruit that will bring beautiful colours to your table arrangements.

 

Dessert Options you should consider for your Spring intimate wedding:

 

·      Dessert that includes Strawberries and other berries like blueberries and blackberries. The mild temperatures will be very welcome when keeping your berries fresh while been used for deserts in a grazing table or while serving to your guests. Berries are also a great option to consider in terms of colours for your arrangements.

·      The citrus are always welcome! During this time of the year, there are still an abundance of citrus available. Consider having options like lemon pie and you can also play with colours when used in macarons and other small deserts.

 

Drink options to consider for your intimate spring wedding:

·      Use seasonal fruit for your cocktails and drinks: there are a number of delicious cocktails that go very well with both citrus and berries.

·      Water stations that include fruity water: with the warmer weather it’s important to keep your guests hydrated, especially if they will be enjoying alcoholic beverages. Consider adding slices of fruit like watermelon or lemon to your water pitcher. 

·      Have your own Mimosa bar: not sure how to make your own mimosa? Grab some sparkling wine, add some juice and top it all off with some fruit!

 

Spring themed décor for your intimate spring wedding:

·      Furniture for your outdoor area or garden go French antique chic or modern barn vibes, either way choosing a variety of combinations of outdoor furniture for your event is a great way to decorate and provide a great atmosphere for your guests. If you have some time ahead then maybe you can consider visiting some op shops or stalking some second hand furniture on ebay, these can be repainted or used in mismatching set.

·      Using fruit as part of the decoration: if you are hosting an outdoor event, maybe you could consider having fruit as centerpieces. Pastel colors are popular in spring, so maybe you could consider some citrus fruit and also some cherry blossom sprigs.

·      Floral arbor and decoration arches: couples are considering more and more using unusual shapes for their arbor, some great shapes are circles or hexagons. If you are able to create your own piece then maybe try using materials like wood that can then be dressed up with local greenery and seasonal blooms.

·      A shorter guest list will also allow you to be able to fit everyone in a long table. Maybe you can consider having a long table dinner rather than a few smaller tables. By having a long table you will be able to create a tablespace with a combination of produce and blooms like olive branches and blooms.

Spring themed ceremony and celebration on your wedding day:

The best part of spring are the warmer days and the mix of sunshine and mild temperatures. Your guests will by then most likely be very keen to enjoy the outdoors and sunshine. If you are considering holding a backyard wedding ceremony then you could consider choosing a palette of pastels colours and use an abundance of flowers.

Another great way to incorporate the spring vibes in your ceremony  is by including wedding favors that include plants or small succulents in little pots. You could also consider using paper that contains flower seeds within your invitations, or ceremony booklets that way your guests will be able to plant these in your memory!
