5 reasons to have an intimate wedding

This last year has been one of the most challenging for the event industry. We thought with the end of 2020 that we were putting behind Covid-19. As the months of 2021 have rolled by we found ourselves back in lockdowns. I have faith that we will be opening back up very soon, and as the restrictions start to lift and the guest count can go back up I still think that the numbers will remain under 100 for some time. With this uncertain atmosphere and with the shifts in priorities a lot of couples are realizing the benefits of having an intimate wedding ceremony.

In this article we will explore the benefits of having an intimate wedding:

  • More time for your loved ones and the moments that matter:

Most couples I know that have had events that involve 200 or 300 people all have the same point of view: the day goes so fast that they can’t even remember who they talked to and it all seemed like neverending greeting and small talk. Some of them had the same feeling of not having had any time for each other on their day and they felt pulled in all directions and at the end of it all everything seemed like a big blur full of regrets of not being able to enjoy each other during this significant day. Intimate weddings allow you to have a slower day and it allows you to have more meaningful moments where you can slow down and be present with your partner. A more intimate set up also allows other guest that are not familiar to each other to get to know each other and enjoy the celebration.

  • You get a chance to make it personal:

With the option of having a lower amount of guests you get the option to build on an experience for them. The personalization of your wedding day can be related to the theme of your day, the colors you have chosen or something a bit deeper linked to your story: where you met, something you enjoy doing together, a quirky tradition you’ve had in your relationship. Some ways you can personalize your day is by including items to make your guests feel more comfortable like having comfortable thongs for them to change into to enjoy the party or little first aid kits to keep in the toilets for them to refresh themselves. If you are considering having your day in country Victoria or away from where you live then maybe you can consider having a welcome gift for them as they arrive to their accommodation.

One of the best ways that I have seen a day personalized has been from a couple that used to love everything related to archeology and paleontology, so of course, their wedding day was all things Dinosaurs. They chose to give each of their guest a ticket to visit the Melbourne Museum that holds an exhibit on Dinosaurs.

  • You can add unique experiences:

Just like the chance to make the day more personal, having a lower number of guests gives you the opportunity to build an experience for them. If you are considering having your wedding day in country Victoria like the alpine region, then maybe you could consider having your guests arrive earlier than your wedding day and this will allow you to do a few things together before your wedding day like go on bike rides, visit a few local breweries or enjoy some epic views from some stunning lookouts in the alpine region. Being able to build these experiences will allow your guests to have a memorable day beyond your wedding day. Of course, you don’t have to pay for everything, you can make it clear that some of the excursions and activities are to be paid by them but that you would love them to take part as a group activity.

  • Work with your dream team:

As you get familiar with your local wedding vendors like makeup artists and local florists, you will start to get familiar with the pricing, and in most cases the vendors that are more trendy also tend to be some of the most expensive ones. Having a lower number of guests will affect your budget and will allow you the flexibility to invest more money in items like flowers, beverages and prop rentals.

The benefits of having an intimate wedding makes it a strong argument to considering ditching your old guest list that included workmates that you might never see again. While the circumstances over the last year have thrown everyone’s plans in disarray, maybe it’s also time to make the most of these circumstances and consider a smaller wedding that is both meaningful and beautiful. This pandemic has taught us that it is time to focus on the memorable moments because we never know what the future will hold. Make the most of the current environment and keep in mind the importance of celebrating the love and commitment you have for each other and remember you can include others with modern technology like live cast of your ceremony.

I hope that these options will help you to navigate the ins and outs of organising a memorable day.
