Rosebud weddings: 10 things you should know about wedding days

10 Things you need to know when planning your wedding day

Some things are more fun to coordinate than others: colour schemes and wedding dresses any day! but dietary requirements and seating charts maybe not so much … Here is a list of things you should keep in mind while planning your day to make sure that it runs smoothly. We know it’s not nearly and fun as choosing colours or stationary but believe me… they are essential!

  1. Have a rain back up plan: My own wedding was planned with the outdoors and epic beach locations in mind, but in summer and in the middle of a drought our wedding day was a non stop downpour … lucky you might say? Well lesson learned! At least we had a backup plan!

  2. Remember to factor in travel times: Consider this little detail if you want to include different locations for your bridal portraits, the less travel time means the more time for photography and in turn you will have a bigger variety of images.

  3. Some vintage cars can be slower: Vintage cars travel at an average of 60 ks an hour and if you have a bit of distance to cover then this could make a big difference when it comes to arrival times. Just make sure that you keep this in mind when choosing your transport.

  4. Your dress will most likely get dirty: nothing that good dry cleaner can’t fix. Some bugs are attracted to light colours and if you are considering a sunset shoot then sometimes bugs will come along. Also if you are planning a beach wedding and you decide to have photos at the beach, your dress will most likely have sand and brown marks at the bottom of it, it will be fine for the reception though ….

  5. Bugs love bouquets specially in spring: remember this if you are having portraits outdoors at a park or any other outdoor areas.

  6. Have a spare comfortable pair of shoes: This is vital if you are planning to walk a bit for your bridal portraits, uncomfortable shoes will make you walk awkward and this will translate in your images. If you can, wear your shoes out before your wedding day, or consider having a second pair with you, your dress will most likely cover them anyway.

  7. Break the rules and have a wedding that really represents you and your partner: This is a MUST. A lot of times we are surrounded by opinions and too many “shoulds” and “ must”, but at the end of the day this is the day that you have to celebrate the relationship that you have built and your commitment to this next chapter in your life and this is best when celebrated with a day that represents you and your journey. 8. Plan some alone time with your partner: the day will go in a flash and you will probably feel like everyone wants a piece of you. Make sure that you plan 5 minutes together before the bridal entry, nothing will happen if your guests have to wait a little bit, but you will have these minutes to yourselves.

  9. Something will probably turn out different to what you planned, but don’t panic!: I promise it will be fine. A lot of times we have these “Pinterest Perfect” weddings in mind, but something will happen on your wedding day, and it’s vital to let go and enjoy the day and keep in mind after all why you are here.

  10. Let go of traditions!: Make sure that you include your own traditions! Let go of the old 3 thousand layer cakes and embrace the nude layer one tier cake … or whatever rocks your boat! Try to go back to the day you met or your first date and include something related to that and it can become your own tradition.
