What is the best season to get married in Melbourne and regional Victoria?

Melbourne enjoys a wide range of temperatures with warm summers and crisp winters. Weather it’s spring summer or winter, we are very lucky in Melbourne to have a wide variety of options to be able to accommodate your wedding plans, even the wild and adventurous ones!

Before you start considering the best time of the year for your wedding day, it’s best to start with a few questions that could help you to decide the time of the year:

  • During what season did you meet?

  • Do you have a special memory that took place in Autumn or spring?

  • Do you love nautical activities? Or Ski and cosy ski lodges?

  • Do you love the outdoors and trekking?

Above all, try to choose a time of the year that is meaningful to you both, and keep in mind that hot summer months are not always ideal to be in suits and big gowns, but also remember that you don’t need to fall all the conventions and norms. Through this guide we are hoping to be able to guide you through the ins and outs of the best times during the year for your wedding day in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Summer weddings in Regional Victoria and Metro Melbourne

Summer is always a popular time of the year to get married. However, after attending many weddings during these months, I need to confess that I believe this is not an ideal time of the year. Although the days are mild and you have less of a chance to bump into a rainy day, summer can be blistering hot in Melbourne and Country Victoria. Some of the things you will have to keep in mind if you are choosing a hot summer day for your wedding is that you will be in a gown for most of the day, and also your guests will be in formal attire, so spare some thoughts on how you will keep them cool and comfortable. The great thing about this time of the year are the late sunsets and the possibility of hosting your day outdoors.

Spring weddings in regional Victoria

Spring is a great option to consider for your wedding day. The days are starting to get longer in Melbourne and the weather starts to change. There is still the possibility of having rainy days, but having mild days mean you will be more comfortable in your clothes and so will be your guests.

Spring is an in-between season, so if you are considering to elope in the alpine region then you could still be able to find snow in the mountain tops without the ski season crowds. The spring season is also a great opportunity to be able to have a wider selection of flowers for your day as the bulb flowers (tulips, Iris, Hyacinths…) are available during this time of the year.

The downside is the popularity and budget. When you crave for a wedding in Spring, you probably need to plan a bit earlier to secure the venue and suppliers you love. The popular one may get snapped up quickly due to the high volume of booking at this period of the year. You might also allocate a bit extra to your wedding fund, the venues and suppliers may charge extra or require more deposit during this season.

Autumn weddings in Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons to get married specially in the great Alpine region or the botanical gardens in Inner Melbourne. The change of the season brings with it a softer light and also the autumn orange leaves.

If you are considering an adventurous elopement in autumn, then one of the things to keep in mind is the possibility of muddy fields, keep this in mind and remember to pack some boots just in case.

Winter weddings in Metro Melbourne and Victoria

Not many couples consider the winter months to get married. I think the main reason for this could be because there are more chances of having a rainy day, however winter weddings also have their own charm. The main advantage of getting married in winter is that it’s the low season in Melbourne and regional Victoria, so there are more chances for you to find your dreamed vendors at lower price. There are still options for an outdoor wedding, but we would recommend you to always have a second option on your wedding day in case the weather turns. Some great option for indoor locations are places like breweries and wineries that have large areas to host your guests.

I hope that this guide will help you to consider all the options available to both of you to plan the most memorable day. I can’t wait to hear about your wedding plans!
