Wedding Photographer Mornington | 4 steps to finding a great wedding photographer

Congratulations! So you are engaged and now you can start planning your epic day! Once the cake is eaten and the dress worn, photography is one of the mementos you will have of your wedding day and your love story. It’s important to research your photographer and compare professional skills, styles and make sure that you will get along on the day.

Wedding Photography step 1: Settle on a Style

Before you even start researching your photographer take a step back and have a look at non wedding imagery and think about what sort of images are you attracted to? Are they formal and posed like classic paintings or are they more emotional, are they darker or lighter images? Do you like pops of colours or minimalist styles? Once you have a clear picture in your head of what you like and don’t like then you can start your research. You also need to keep in mind that a lot of photographers might showcase emotive images but they will also shoot the formal bridal portraits (aka everyone looking at the camera portraits) to make sure that all bases are covered.

Wedding Photography step 2: Do Your Homework aka research

Keep in mind google reviews as well as latest work through blogs. Make sure that you check out latest images as the styles of shooting and editing might have changed through times and if their website is not updated then it won’t reflect their work.

Wedding photography step 3: Let’s meet!

Ideally it would be great to make time and meet or at least have a phone call to double check on each other and make sure that we are on the same page. Sometimes this is a bit harder as there could be traveling involve, in witch case we can touch base on a video call. Through our meeting we will chat about your wedding venue as well as the logistics and your expectations on your day.

Wedding photography step 4: Consider the Postproduction times

The edition of images takes time and there is an average of 40 hours of work for each wedding after the event. During our meeting we can touch base on:

  • How many images should you expect?

  • Will your images be high resolution or low resolution?

  • Will I be able to get prints made myself?

  • Will my gallery include the edited images?

I hope that you find this information useful and that it helps you to decide on a great match for your wedding day. If you think that we can get along then shoot me a message! I can’t wait to hear your plans for your wedding day!
